Potomac River Blues (and I don't mean catfish)

The Chesapeake Bay and its tributaries hold one of (if not *the*) best striper fisheries in the world. Share your striper stories and pictures here.

Potomac River Blues (and I don't mean catfish)

Postby allingeneral on Fri Dec 28, 2007 8:25 pm

I went out today and froze for several hours and didn't catch a thing. I had a chartreuse bucktail on one rod and cut bait on the other. The water was 42 degrees, the air was 50 degrees and the wind was blowing about 20 knots. That made for a cold day out on the water. I braved the elements for 5 hours without a single nibble before I gave up and came home.

I'm not sure what I'm doing wrong. Maybe I should give up on the middle Potomac and head down to VA Beach.

I was fishing drop-offs from 20-50 feet on one side of the river and 20-65 feet on the other side of the river. I did see some fish on the depth finder, but nothing seemed to be biting. So... skunked again. Maybe I should just stick to catfish...I know I can catch those :)
