Jason Nyberg, owner of Feather River Aire, a reputable air conditioning company in California, along with his son and daughter, Andrew and Amanda, chartered the Top Shot Sportfishing Charter Boat team to do some deep sea big game sport fishing in Fort Lauderdale, Florida, at Bahia Mar Yachting Center, 801 Seabreeze Blvd., Fort Lauderdale, FL 33316. While the rest of the family relaxed on the Fort Lauderdale beach, Jason and his children wanted to enjoy deep sea big game sport fishing. As they boarded the boat, I asked them what type of fishing they would be interested in doing. Jason’s response was that they wanted to catch any type of fish as long as he and the kids enjoyed themselves.

Fifteen minutes after leaving the dock, lines were in 120 ft. of water at the sea buoy in Fort Lauderdale, 1.8 miles from shore. If you venture off another ¼ of a mile you will find yourself in 500 ft. of water due to our extreme drop off. We started out trolling with two #8 plainers, both with double hooked Bonito strips. For surface baits, we went with two Bonito strips and two Ballyhoos.

We trolled the reefs zigzagging in and out from 80 ft. out to 160 ft., targeting some of our artificial wrecks we have in Fort Lauderdale. The anglers took turns reeling in their catches while enjoying the experience together – taking pictures of each other catching their fish and enjoying the Fort Lauderdale weather. All in all, the anglers caught a total of ten Kingfish, two Bonitos and one Spanish Mackerel.

With mission accomplished, it was now time to head back to the dock. The anglers retired into the a/c salon and enjoyed the relaxing trip back to the dock at Bahia Mar Yachting Center, 801 Seabreeze Blvd., Fort Lauderdale, FL 33316, while watching the plasma TV.
