Fort Lauderdale Fishing with Top Shot Sportfishing Charter Boat and Capt. Zsak

Michael Williams, Dave Davis, Bradley Bathe and Steve Goedeki from Indiana chartered the Top Shot Sportfishing Charter Boat team to do some deep sea big game sport fishing in Fort Lauderdale, Florida, at Bahia Mar Yachting Center, 801 Seabreeze Blvd., Fort Lauderdale, FL 33316. The guys were here enjoying the South Florida weather while being on a business convention. As the anglers boarded the boat, they mentioned that they were interested in doing some Shark fishing so we planned, on doing this later on the trip.

Fifteen/twenty minutes after leaving the dock, we were at the sea buoy in Fort Lauderdale in 120 ft. of water, 1.8 miles from shore. If you venture off another ¼ of a mile, you will find yourself in 500 ft. of water due to our extreme drop off located very close to our in-shore. We put down two #8 plainers, one with a 2 ½ blue reflector drone spoon and the other with a blue and pink sea witch in front of a double hooked Bonito strip. For surface baits we went with two Bonito strips.

After trolling for ½ hour, I heard a report on the radio from some of the charter boats in Fort Lauderdale that a couple of Sharks were seen tailing down- sea, offshore off of Fort Lauderdale. So, we headed out to 350 ft. of water. I put out two kites with two live Goggle Eyes from each kite and one Shark bait on the bottom. With an unidentified fish chopping off one of the Goggle Eyes, we reset the kite. After a15 minute wait, the bottom Shark bait rod tip bounced twice. Something is playing with it!!! Then the rod bent over – hooked up!!! The line screamed off the 80 International Penn reel. Dave, our mate, cleared the rest of the fishing lines as Bradley hopped into the fighting chair to enjoy the tug of war with the Shark. After a thirty-five minute fight, the Shark was at the side of the boat. The Shark was tagged, pictures were taken and the Shark was released to fight again. Congratulations, Bradley, on a job well done.

It was time to head back to the dock. The anglers retired into the a/c salon and enjoyed the relaxing trip back to the dock at Bahia Mar Yachting Center, 801 Seabreeze Blvd., Fort Lauderdale, FL 33316, while watching the plasma TV.
