Fort Lauderdale Fishing with Top Shot Sportfishing Charter Boat and Capt. Zsak
Shark Mike.jpg

Mike from Pompano Beach, FL, Emry from Tennessee and Dean and Eric from Texas chartered the Top Shot Sportfishing Charter Boat team to do some deep sea big game sport fishing in Fort Lauderdale, Florida. Mike has fished with the Top Shot Sportfishing Charter Boat team numerous times in the past. We had easterly winds blowing 15 mph, clear skies and blue water with a 3 to 4 foot chop.

On our way out we stopped to purchase a dozen live Goggle Eyes to be used later in the charter. Fifteen minutes later, lines were in 120 ft. of water at the sea buoy in Fort Lauderdale, 1.8 miles from shore. We started trolling with two #8 plainers down – one with a 3 ½ blue reflector drone spoon and the other with a pink and blue sea witch in front of a double hooked Bonito strip. We had four Bonito strips for surface bait.

Our first fish was a Bonita - we caught one on a surface lure and two more Bonitas on the 3 1/2” spoon. I continued trolling north of Fort Lauderdale fishing over wrecks and bottom structure with successfully catching 2 King Mackerels.

We decided to do some Shark fishing so we went out to deeper water in 400'. We put out one kite with two live Goggle Eyes and three dead baits at different depths, one on the surface, one mid depth and one down to the bottom. All of a sudden the bottom bait rod bent over, went slack then bent over again – hooked up – he is on!!!! Dean was our angler and hopped into the fighting chair. After a 40 minute fight, Dean reeled in a large Hammerhead Shark measuring 103”. Dave, our mate, wired the Shark to the side of the boat, pictures were taken and the Shark was released to fight again.

With mission accomplished, it was time to head back to the dock. The anglers retired into the a/c salon and enjoyed the relaxing trip back to the dock at Bahia Mar Yachting Center, 801 Seabreeze Blvd., Fort Lauderdale, FL 33316, while watching the plasma TV.
