Southwest Airlines was holding a convention in Fort Lauderdale and arranged for a fishing chartering trip for their employees. Becky McCake, along with her colleagues, Mike, Lorie, Ron and Bob were with the Top Shot Sportfishing Charter Boat team to do some deep sea big game sport fishing in Fort Lauderdale, Florida, at Bahia Mar Yachting Center, 801 Seabreeze Blvd., Fort Lauderdale, FL 33316.

On the way out we stopped to purchase a dozen live Goggle Eyes from T&T Bait. Fifteen minutes later, we were at the sea buoy in Fort Lauderdale in 120 ft. of water, 1.8 miles from shore. If you go out another ¼ of a mile you would find yourself in 500 ft. of water due to Fort Lauderdale’s extreme drop off. We started out trolling with two #8 plainers, one with a pink and blue sea witch and the other with a blue and white sea witch in front of double hooked Bonito strip. For surface baits we went with four Bonito strips. As we trolled the reefs, all of the anglers took turns bringing in their catches - Kingfish and Bonitos.

A little color change was forming in 210 ft. of water - a good avenue for predators to be traveling down, so we put out two kites with two live Goggles Eyes from each kite. Mahi Mahi on the left long – Becky was our angler and she reeled in a 12 lb. Bull Mahi Mahi. From there we reset - right short – left short – an explosion on both live baits – hooked up. Mike and Ron were the anglers and they reeled in two Black Fin Tunas.

With seven Kingfish, three Bonitos, two Tunas and one Mahi Mahi, it was time to return to the dock. The anglers retired into the a/c salon and enjoyed the relaxing trip back to the dock at Bahia Mar Yachting Center, 801 Seabreeze Blvd., Fort Lauderdale, FL 33316, while watching the plasma TV. At the dock, our mate, Dave, filet their fish for dinner tonight.
