Fort Lauderdale Fishing with Top Shot Sportfishing Charter Boat and Capt. Zsak

Harrison Lattimer and Todd Schad from North Carolina chartered the Top Shot Sportfishing charter boat team to do some deep sea charter boat sport fishing in Fort Lauderdale, FL. We had sporty winds blowing out of the east and the seas were 4 to 5 feet high.

Heading out of the inlet we decided to target Mahi Mahi offshore. An east wind is good for Mahi fishing, as it schools up the bait and lines up the weed pushing it closer to shore. The bait selection was Ballyhoo, and we fished four surface baits and one deep plainer line.

We started trolling by the sea buoy in Fort Lauderdale in 120 ft of water 1.8 miles from shore. From there we headed offshore in 300 ft. of water looking for weed lines, birds and schools of flying fish. Our first bite was in 600 ft. of water, and it was a keeper Mahi Mahi, which ate the swimming Ballyhoo. We continued heading offshore searching for more birds and weed lines and caught another Mahi Mahi in 650 ft. of water, approximately 2.5 miles from shore. The 3rd bite was on the rigger with Ballyhoo bait, and it was another Mahi. The 4th fish hit the deep plainer line, and a Mahi Mahi ate the white sea witch - this was in 700 ft. of water - we were about to gaff him but he pulled the hook on the leader. The last catch for this trip was a really nice Wahoo, which was also caught on the deeper sea witch line. The angler brought the Wahoo to the side of the boat. Our mate, Ian, gaffed the Wahoo, brought it inside the boat and put the Wahoo in the fish box with ice.

It was now time to head back to the dock. The anglers retired into the a/c salon and enjoyed the relaxing trip back to the dock at Bahia Bar Yachting Center, 801 Seabreeze Blvd. Fort Lauderdale 33316.
