I'm generally freshwater kind of guy, but I have recently bought a boat that is capable of some "heavier seas" and I'm thinking about venturing out into the Potomac River and heading toward the Chesapeake Bay.
During this new exploratory time in my fishing and sea-going life, I plan to try to land some nice Stripers (or "Rockfish", as some people call them). I am looking for some information that will help me to buy the tackle that I need to go Striper hunting.
From what I know up to this point, I assume that trolling is the way to go? Should I use live bait or will a large Rapala X-Rap Deep Diver do the trick? Right now, my biggest pole is an 8-foot catfish pole (Ugly Stik) with a fairly heavy spinning reel and 15lb test line...I'm pretty sure I need something heavier than this, but I may go with what I've got for now.
Any tips or pointers are welcome!!
