Fishing Fort Lauderdale on Happy Day Today with Capt. Zsak
Sailfish Barrie.jpg

Barrie and Corinna Drachenberg from British Colombia were relaxing on our famous Fort Lauderdale beach looking at the beautiful indigo blue waters and said, let’s go fishing!!!! They crossed A1A and chartered the Happy Day Today along with the Topshotfishing team to do some deep sea sport fishing in Fort Lauderdale FL. With the children back home, this was just like a honeymoon once again after being married for 31 years.

Barrie, an avid fisherman for Salmon and Halibut back home, was all enthused about going out and catching a Sailfish. Fifteen minutes after leaving the dock at Bahia Mar, two kites were flying with two live Goggle Eyes from each kite and a Shark bait from the rigger. The deep blue indigo water had “fish” written all over it. As Barrie was telling us his fishing experience in the frigid waters of British Colombia and how excellent the Cods were, an explosion occurred on the left long kite – Sailfish!!!!! – he exited the water immediately greyhounding away from the boat and taking ¾ of the line off the reel. With an excellent angling job on Barrie’s part, twenty-five minutes later the Sailfish was subdued as Mark grabbed the fish for picture taking, measuring 81” and was released to fight again.

Now it was Corinna’s turn. I went back to the same area I was fishing, but the water color had changed – it was not the same – so I ran to the north and located some more indigo blue waters. We set up again and waited for the black shadow to appear. Then it happened!!! Sailfish on the left long!!!!! The Sailfish immediately came out of the water telling us that something was wrong. He jumped frantically and threw the hook. We set up again, but no luck. Time ran out and Barrie promised Corinna a future fishing trip.

The Crachenberg retired into the a/c salon aboard the Happy Day Today for the trip back to the dock at Bahia Mar 801 Seabreeze Blvd. Fort Lauderdale 33316.
