Fishing Fort Lauderdale on Happy Day Today with Capt. Zsak

Marc Cooper, an attorney from Newfoundland, Canada with his friend, Cliff, chartered the Happy Day Today along with the Topshotfishing team to do some deep sea sport fishing in Fort Lauderdale, FL. Winds were out of the east at 12 mph and seas were 3-4 ft. while the sun played peek-a-boo.

Marc, an avid outdoorsman, hunter and angler requested to catch a Shark. Although for the last couple of days Shark fishing was slow, we still gave it a go. We stopped to pick up a dozen live Goggle Eyes at T&T Bait in the inlet of Fort Lauderdale.

I headed out to the Shark grounds, located 2 miles off shore. We put two kites out with two live Goggles Eyes from each kite, a Shark bait on the bottom and a Shark bait on the surface. As we sat waiting for the Shark’s arrival, an attack occurred on the right long kite bait. The sun was reflecting in my eyes so I could not tell what type of fish we hooked. Within a minute, we could tell the species, as a large Mahi Mahi jumped out of the water showing his identity. Marc was our angler and he hopped into the fighting chair to do battle. Twenty-five minutes later the large Mahi Mahi appeared along side of the boat as Eric, our mate, gaffed the 26 lb. Mahi Mahi and put him in the fish box.

We reset and waited for the Shark’s arrival. Thirty minutes later he made his appearance as a Golden Hammerhead Shark in the 250 lb. class swam 20 feet from the boat with dorsal fin out of the water heading towards the live Goggle Eye from the kite. He would first have to swim by the surface Bonito Shark bait before getting to the live Goggle Eye. We thought the Shark would first eat the Bonito bait, but to our amazement he did not, instead he swam past the Bonito bait and swam in between the two live Goggle Eyes kite bait, never hesitating and kept going. I guess the Shark either just fed or had indigestion from his previous feeding . Marc was thrilled to see the Hammerhead Shark so close to the boat.

It was time to head back to the dock at Bahia Mar 801 Seabreeze Blvd. Fort Lauderdale 33316, as the anglers retired to the a/c salon.
