Fishing Fort Lauderdale on Happy Day Today with Capt. Zsak

Lou Conte along with Steve Williams, Kevin Hurley, and Meredith Holland chartered the Happy Day Today along with the Topshotfishing team to do some deep sea big game sport fishing in Fort Lauderdale, FL; Lou was treating his business associates to a fishing charter. The temperature was in the low 90’s, winds were out of the east at 2-4 mph, blue skies with no clouds.

Fifteen minutes after leaving the dock, lines were in 120 ft. of water at the sea buoy in Fort Lauderdale. We started off with two #8 plainers, one with a blue and white sea witch in front of a double hooked Bonito strip – the other with a blue and pink sea witch in front of a double hooked Bonito strip. For surface baits we had two Ballyhoos and two Bonito strips. As we started trolling, I headed from one artificial wreck to another, which in Broward County Fort Lauderdale has 34 artificial wrecks, ranging from 50 ft. tug boats to 520 ft. freighters, in 60 feet of water out to 410 ft. I kept trolling from one wreck to another and marking fish down deep over the wrecks but no bites. So, I took one engine out of gear to let the baits sink down deeper and the technique paid off – the anglers caught nine Kingfish ranging from 5-13 lbs, ten Bonitos and two Barracudas with everyone taking turns. From there I decided to make a drop with a live Goggle Eye on one of the wrecks – we would up catching five Amberjacks.

With plenty of fish in the box, it was time to head back. The anglers retired into the a/c salon for the trip back to the dock at Bahia Mar 801 Seabreeze Blvd. Fort Lauderdale 33316.
