Fishing Fort Lauderdale on Happy Day Today with Capt. Zsak

Local boys from Miami, Rolando, Tulio, Xavier, Christen, Pat and Andres, took time off from their company, Blue Water Lighting, to enjoy some time off with friends and to do some deep sea big game sport fishing with the Topshotfishing team in Fort Lauderdale, FL. Winds were out of the east at 7 miles per hour, blue waters pushed in all the way to the second reef and the seas were running 2-3 ft.

Fifteen minutes after leaving the dock lines were in 120 ft. of water at the sea buoy in Fort Lauderdale, FL, 1.8 miles from shore. We put two #8 plainers down, one with a 3 ½ blue reflector drone spoon and the other with a pink and blue sea witch in front of a double hooked Bonito strip. For surfaces baits we had two Ballyhoos and two Bonito strips. With two cases of beer on board the boat, the party started the moment we left the dock.

We have been having a good run of Kingfish the last couple of days. Our first fish caught was a Kingfish followed by a couple of Bonitos. The boys took turns reeling in the catch. A black shadow appeared on the left long rigger. Mark, our mate, teased the Sailfish until the fish grabbed the bait and was hooked up – the fun started. Rolando was our angler as he jumped into the fighting chair to do battle. The Sailfish did a few 360° jumps – a spectacular sight to see. Twenty minutes later the Sailfish was by the side of the boat for picture taking and was released to fight again.

We put our spread back out and went back to trolling with the anglers taking turns catching more fish. Our total catch for the trip was seven Kingfish, two Bonitos and one Sailfish.

The anglers retired into the a/c salon for a relaxing ride back to the dock at Bahia Mar 801 Seabreeze Blvd. Fort Lauderdale 33316.
