Fishing Fort Lauderdale on Happy Day Today with Capt. Zsak

Local Floridians, Max Schachter and his sons, Alex, age 5, and Ryan, age 7, along with friends, Matt Lickerman and his son, Brett, age 15, chartered the Topshotfishing team to do some deep sea big game sport fishing in Fort Lauderdale, FL. Winds were out of the east at 2 mph, seas running 1-2 ft., temperatures in the mid 80’s.

As the young anglers boarded the boat, the enthusiasm was high, questioning, “What kind of fish am I going to catch and how big”. I told them it was totally up to them because they have to call the fish for them to come.

Fifteen minutes after leaving the dock, lines were in 120 ft. of water off of the sea buoy in Fort Lauderdale, 1.8 miles from shore. We started out trolling with two plainers down, one with a blue and white sea witch and the other with a brown and pink sea witch – both having double hooked Bonito strips. For surface baits we went with two Ballyhoos and two Bonito strips.

All three young fellows started calling, “here fishy, fishy” and waved their “magic rods”. Soon one of the plainer rods had a fish on as Alex jumped into the fishing chair and was rewarded with an 8 lb. Kingfish. From there, all the young anglers kept rotating, taking turns catching fish, as the two fathers cheered on their sons, taking pictures and also taking turns. We made a drop and caught three Snappers. The total catch for the trip was 10 Kingfish and 3 Snappers.

With good memories of their fishing experience, it was time to head back. All the anglers relaxed in the a/c salon for the trip back to the dock at Bahia Mar 801 Seabreeze Blvd. Fort Lauderdale 33316.
