Fishing in Fort Lauderdale Happy Day Today
Fishing Fort Lauderdale on Happy Day Today with Capt. Zsak

It was time for the monthly fishing trip that Joe Florea, President of Aruba Construction, holds with his good friend and business associate, Rick Muller from Nautica Management and Mr. Gil from Fort Lauderdale. Winds were out of the east southeast at 9 mph and seas running 2-3 ft., temperatures in the high 80’s.

We stopped on the way out to purchase live Goggle Eyes from T&T Bait and afterwards headed towards the sea buoy off of Fort Lauderdale where we started fishing in 120 ft. of water, 1.8 miles from shore, with two plainers and four surface baits.

Joe requested to catch some Mahi Mahi’s so we headed offshore. I had to go by my favorite wreck that has been holding Wahoo’s for the past week. The fish gods were on our side- the plainer rod bent over with the rod tip bouncing up and down – Joe remarked, “That’s going to be a Wahoo”. He hoped into the fighting chair and fifteen minutes later, he was right – it was a Wahoo. From there we trolled offshore catching four Mahi Mahi’s. Then, we went to do some Tile fishing, and we wound up catching five Golden Tiles and two Scorpion fish, which are all excellent eating fish. Rick had one request and that was for either a Grouper or an Amberjack. On our second drop, Rick reeled in an Amberjack that he enjoyed fighting and was released.

It was time to head back to the dock at Bahia Mar, 801 Seabreeze Blvd, Fort Lauderdale, FL 33316. After drinking beers and baking in the son, Joe commented that he was going to take a nap on the sofa in the salon with the a/c blowing on him; the other anglers joined him.
