Fishing Fort Lauderdale on Happy Day Today with Capt. Zsak

Jeremy Hughes, along with his 9 year old son, Landon, and his wife, Michelle, from Ohio chartered the Topshotfishing team to do some deep sea sport fishing in Fort Lauderdale, FL. Jeremy called me to discuss the type of fishing he wanted to do, which was Shark fishing. So our objective was to catch some fish for his son, Landon, and then to go Shark fishing for Jeremy. Today winds were out of the east at 4-10 mph and seas running 2-4 ft., temperatures in the high 80’s.

Fifteen minutes after leaving the dock, lines were in 120 ft. of water by the sea buoy in Fort Lauderdale, FL, 1.8 miles from shore. We started off trolling and Landon was our first angler; he reeled in a nice Bonito, which put a smile on his face. From there we trolled around while all three anglers took turn bringing in a total of 4 Kingfish, 3 Bonitos and 1 Tuna.

After putting fish in the box, it was time now for Jeremy to catch his Shark. I went to the Shark area and put down one bottom bait, one midrange bait and one surface bait. Landon starting calling for the Shark, “here Sharky, Sharky”, waiting patiently for the bite. As he was calling for the Shark, the bottom rod bent over; Jeremy hopped into the fighting chair, while our mate, Dave, cleared the other lines. The tug of war went on for thirty-five minutes; at the end, Jeremy was rewarded with a 78” Bull Shark. Pictures were taken and the Shark was released to fight again as Jeremy yelled, “I got my Shark, thanks”.

All the anglers rested and relaxed in the a/c salon for the ride back to the dock at Bahia Mar, 801 Seabreeze Blvd. Fort Lauderdale 33316.
