Fishing in Fort Lauderdale Happy Day Today

Deep Sea Sport Fishing Fort Lauderdale with Topshotfishing and Capt. Zsak

Tom and Lisa Collins from Orlando chartered the Topshotfishing team to do some deep sea big game sport fishing in Fort Lauderdale, FL. Tom, a repeat customer, was back for more fishing enjoyment. The last time he fished with us he brought his son; this time his wife came along for the excitement. Tom would rather travel the 3 ½ hours by car from Orlando to Fort Lauderdale than to charter a boat in Ponce Inlet and travel the long distance there to the fishing grounds – you get more fishing time by doing this. Today the sun was playing peek-a-boo with temperatures in the high 80’s.

Large schools of Mullet are migrating down the coast at this time of year. The day before this charter, we took advantage of the migration of Mullets and headed out, loading up on this bait fish.

Fifteen minutes after leaving the dock, lines were in 120 ft. of water by the sea buoy in Fort Lauderdale, less than 2 miles from shore. We put one plainer down with a double hooked Mullet strip and a purple and silver sea witch in front. For surface baits we went with two Mullet strips and two Bonito strips. Tom’s objective was to replenish his stock of eating fish. Husband and wife competing against each other to see who would win the prize for the biggest fish – of course, it was his wife, Lisa. The total catch was 4 Kingfish, one Mahi Mahi, which was short and was returned to the ocean, 3 Oceanic Skipjack Tunas and 11 Bonitos.

With fish headed to the Collin’s freezer, it was time to head back. The anglers retired into the a/c salon to relax on the ride back to the dock at Bahia Mar, 801 Seabreeze Blvd. Fort Lauderdale 33316.
