Deep Sea Sport Fishing Fort Lauderdale with Topshotfishing and Capt. Zsak

Jack/John Apgar and Frank Carman from Naples, who have been good friends for a long time, chartered the Topshotfishing team to do some deep sea big game sport fishing in Fort Lauderdale. Jack/John has his own boat in Naples and was impressed with the 15 minute ride to the fishing grounds here in Fort Lauderdale as compared to the 45 minute ride it takes in Naples, Florida. We had winds out of the east at 10-15 mph with seas running 3-5 ft., temperatures in the mid 80’s.

When I spoke with Jack over the phone, he mentioned he was interested in catching a Sailfish so that was out main target. On the way out we stopped to purchase a dozen live Goggle Eyes from T&T Bait in Port Everglades Fort Lauderdale. We went directly into kite fishing and set up in 145 ft. of water north of the sea buoy in Fort Lauderdale. We put out two kites with two live Goggle Eyes from each kite, and one live bait from the rigger.

Our first strike came on the left long kite, which was a Kingfish that skyrocketed out of the water and took half the bait with him. This occurrence was repeated three more times with no fish to show.

I moved the boat out to 170 ft. of water where a slight color change was forming. Our first strike was a Mahi Mahi; Frank was our angler and brought in a nice Bull Mahi Mahi. A couple of minutes later, another Mahi Mahi appeared on the right long; Jack was our angler and reeled it in. The Mahi Mahi did some great jumps before bringing him into the boat. As I waited for the black shadow to appear, another Mahi Mahi was caught by Frank – Matt, our mate, gaffed the Mahi Mahi and placed it in the fish box.

With Mahi Mahi served on the dinner menu tonight, it was time to return to the dock. The anglers retired into the a/c salon to relax on the ride back to the dock at Bahia Mar, 801 Seabreeze Blvd. Fort Lauderdale 33316.
