Plastics rock

Post by CrappieKeith »

I like to fish eddyies in rivers and I like to troll plastics on jigs for pike bass and more importantly ....walleyes.

The trick is boat speed. In 10-12 fow you'll need to run about 1.5-1.7 mph. This will get a 1/4 oz jig down to the strike zone.
I'll add a plastic like this sassy shad by Mr.Twister.

We can catch 30-70 in a 4 -5 hour period loading up on doubles and triples.
Running on the outside of the weed beds by fast drops can boat a bunch of fish fast.
Here's a few other versions that work well.

Catching walleyes can really be easy with the right weapon.
a rod that you can feel every little pip or pop is key. Then after the strike you'll drop the rod back towards the fish for just a second or two and then rear like you got a pair!!!

I've only caught one walleye in my life. I caught it while we were trolling for hybrid white bass at the lake where I grew up (Lake Shelbyville, Illinois). I was maybe 9 years old and it was a 7 pound walleye that nearly killed me. Mom tried to take the fishing pole away from me, but Dad told her to leave me alone and let me fight it hehe. It wasn't a plastic that it bit on though...it was a deep running crankbait...a weird one that we never used...I dug it out of the bottom of Dad's tackle box and he told me that I'll never catch anything on it, but go ahead and use what I want to use. lol That had to have pissed Dad off for sure when I caught that fish with it lol

:fishin:

A fond memory. I think Dad still has a picture of me holding that walleye hanging in his garage somewhere :)

Yes they are.
I'm fishing plastics most all of the time and I believe I'm catching way more fish.
