Fishing Hurts - LOL

Post by allingeneral »

OK...I couldn't decide whether to post this in the general discussion or under Fish Humor!

I'm sure that you have all seen the Google ad, paid for by our good friends at PETA (People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals)..the ad says "Fishing Hurts - You wouldn't impale a dog in the mouth, why do it to a fish?"

OK, so I finally decided to click that link just to see what they're talking about (I knew it would be ridiculous). But REALLY!!! LOL It's worth a read just for the humor factor. Here's a link to it:

http://www.fishinghurts.com - Go have a laugh NOW!! :hysterical:

These people actually go so far as to compare a fish to a baby! "A fish is a dog is a child"

Here are a couple of quotes from the fishing hurts website that should really be posted in the fish humor section:

"Even when thrown back, fish are forced to endure a violent and frightening ordeal. " - Awww! Poor fish!! Here, let me throw you in a frying pan...that will put an end to the frightening ordeal!

"Fishing is just as cruel as tossing Rover a biscuit on a hook and then reeling in the old boy. The only difference is that Rover is cute and cuddly. But don't let the scales and gills fool you: Those fish have feelings, too."

If fish have feelings then they should tell someone who cares!

The terrible part about all of this is that there are people in the world who believe the dribble that PETA spews out on a daily basis. Forget the poor fish and start worrying about the poor vegetarians. They're the ones with the real problems!

Look for the "Fishing Hurts" link and click it. It's some funny stuff!

It would be nice to be able to ban some ads on Google AdSense on your own site, I really do not like seeing the Fishing Hurts ad on my blog :x

Now that you mention it...I think you can block ads pointing to specific sites. Let me dig around for a minute and I'll get back to this...

Yes indeedy! No more fishing hurts ads on my sites!

Here's the Google FAQ answer to help with Filtering your Google AdSense ads.

All you have to do is:
1) login to your Google Adsense account
2) select the AdSense Setup tab
3) then under that tab in the header, you will see a link for "Competitive Ad Filter". Click that link
4) enter in the text box, the destination URL for any sites that you do not want listed in your google ads.
5) Click the "Save Changes" button

The destination URL in this case is fishinghurts.com

PETA is a joke... I have been having problems with them for over 4 years now...

It started after I caught my first large shark... I posted the pics on the internet and within days was recieving hate mail and even 2 death threats from animal rights wackos who said I was pretty much destroying the worlds shark populations single handedly... I kept all that stuff and still look at it when I need a laugh... I still get hate mail from this...

When I saw that ad on google ads I just had to laugh at how ridiculous these people are...

Thanks for the info on how to keep these guys off my websites...

I actually found the site well before adsense ever did. A buddy of mine told me that peta had been passing out the flyer at a local grade school. I didn'y know if the story was true so I went looking and found their "fishing hurts" website and downloaded the flyer. I laughed out load and remember commenting that if they had handed one of these to my kids they would have been in for one hell of a fight.

I haven't bothered blocking it from my website because any sportsman that click on the link should have a great laugh and it costs peta money every time.

PETA has such a huge budget (millions of dollars per year), mostly from the tree-huggers in Hollywood...they could care less about a $0.30 click on their adsense link. I think the humor I find in it is not necessarily "Haha, that's funny" but more like.. "Haha - Wow, these people are F'ed in the head!"

Yeah, I like it.

I would also like to point out that the "Fishing Hurts" ad is shown on the main page of my profile at myspace.com...when I login...not when someone visits my profile. I laugh to myself every time I see it there. Maybe I should make an effort to click it at least once each time I visit my profile

Which brings me to an even better point... how about if we rally the fishing and hunting community to just arbitrarily click on every PETA-like link thet they see. If I can rack up $500.00+ in pay per click advertising with my little website in a week...imagine how much PETA will have to dig out of their pockets to pay for the clicks of thousands of sportsmen and women?!
