What type of knot do you use when tying you lure or swivel to your line? Are some knots better for braided line and some knots more suited to monofilament line?
I use a knot that my dad taught me when I was a kid. I have no idea what it's called. I think he might have just made it up! I spent ten years in the Navy and never learned to tie a decent knot.
Here's a link to a site that specializes in knots of all types...fishing knots, hunting knots, boating knots, decorative knots and more. A lot of them are animated and show exactly how to tie them.

After looking at the animated knots website...I think the knot that my dad taught me was a Trilene knot. It seems to work pretty well, but there have been times that I have pinched the line when tying it and the knot was the weakest spot in the whole rig.

Wow, that is a great site. I took a sailing class that lasted a week, and the first day we learned knots. The two that I use, work for fishing as well. Niether was listed on the site. One is a bowline, which is a non-slip line. Works great when tying to a hook or towing a boat. For fishing, I use a basic two half hitches. Since neither is listed, I guess I have some homework to do!!!
Great site, thanks for presenting it.

For just tying my main line to the lure, I'll use the palomar knot. It's very strong and I can use it with any line from braid to mono to fluoro.
