Maglite Serial Numbers

Post by allingeneral »

When ordering parts for the C and D Cell Maglite flashlights, you must know which version of flashlight you have. There are two ever so slightly different models. Maglite changed their specifications slightly in 2001 and the post-2001 maglite C and D cellmodels have a C or D to start the serial number. All Pre-2001 flashlights will just start with a number.

So, look on the body of your Maglite for the serial number before you order parts. It will save you a big headache in the long run!

Examples:
Pre-2001 C-Cell serial number: 3456789
Post-2001 C-Cell serial number: C345678

Pre-2001 D-Cell serial number: 9876543
Post-2001 D-Cell serial number: D876543

The main replacement parts that are affected by the difference noted in this post are the switch assembly and the tail cap. The main difference is that the body of the newer flashlights is slightly smaller in diameter, so the switch assemblies are not interchangeable between the old and new styles.
