Commentary: Weather is GREAT lets go fishing! Good runs of Steelhead are noted...plus good local Trout and Dolly Varden Char fishing. Early run of Chinook Salmon has started, mostly bound for the Kalum River. The earliest we ever caught one was April 5th. We have lots of rain right now which has caused some rivers to blow out.

Skeena River: Water is high and dirty. Apparently the Bulkley River and other tribs are coloured up. The spring run Steelhead are in the river now. Plus Trout and Dolly Varden Char. Early Chinook (King) Salmon are coming in now. Catching Steelhead and Chinook on the same day is possible. Just need some clean water to get at them. Reg: all wild Steelhead everywhere in British Columbia are catch and release.

Kalum River: Both lower and upper sections are in good shape. The water is coming up slowly. These are the conditions we like. A good run of Steelhead are in the river now. Many of them have spawned and are now kelts heading back to the ocean. These fish should be handled with extra care. BIG fresh Chinook are coming in. The river record is 86-pounds.

Lakelse River: The water is in good shape and fishing for Trout is fair. Chinook are being caught off the Lakelse Bridge. Tip: Jigs work best.

Zymoetz (Copper) River: Water is too dirty to fish. Facts: Last year we had a record run of Steelhead, lets hope at least we have another good run this year. The fly rods work extremely well in this river.

Kitimat River: Chinook fishing is good. Some lucky anglers are still catching fresh Steelhead.

Smithers area Lakes: Finally, here is our fishing report for June 1!!!!! Yes, fishing is happening….. At Rainbow Alley fishing is decent with minnow pattern. Nice fish are being caught! For you avid trout fishers: The Stellako opens June 1! Most lakes are fishing well! Lake trout are being caught near the surface. Try a T50 or a T60 flatfish... Burbot fishing is also good at this time! Remember to use a 3 centimetre gap hook for burbot. For rainbow trout try triple teasers, small spinners, wedding bands and apexes. Chronomid fishing is also an option in lakes!

Prince Rupert: Fishing for Salmon, especially Chinook is very good, if you know the hot spots. Hopefully a large run is heading for the Skeena River. Bottom fishing is very good also, especially Halibut. Dungeness Crabbing is outstanding. Contact me if you are interested to book a charter.
