Fishing Fort Lauderdale on Happy Day Today with Capt. Zsak

Todd Swift and Richard Ehrie, Executives from Ari Packaging in Illinois chartered the Happy Day Today along with the Topshotfishing team to do some deep sea sport fishing and invited two of their clients, Maria from Michigan and Jacob from Canada.

With winds out of the north, northwest at 10-12 mph, seas running 2-3 ft., we left the dock, and on our way out we stopped to purchase a dozen live Goggle Eyes from T&T Bait. Fifteen minutes later, we were south of Fort Lauderdale in 180 ft. of water, where a blue-green edge was forming going to the north with a 2 knot current on the blue side and less current on the green side. Sitting on a rip with more current on one side than the other, a Sailfish will favor the less current side because they expel less energy when migrating.

We put out two kites with two live Goggle Eyes from each kite. An hour passed by and our black shadow appeared on our left long. The Sailfish was not interested in feeding and so it kept migrating to the south. A short time passed and another Sailfish appeared on the left long. All of a sudden the dorsal fin and bill was out of the water chasing the live Goggle Eye in circles. The Sailfish finally succeeded in eating the bait and the fight was on!!! Maria was the angler. The Sailfish tail-walked on the water, with the sun’s rays shinning off his beautiful neon colors. Twenty-five minutes later, our mate, Jackson, brought the Sailfish into the boat for picture taking and then it was released to fight again.

It was time to head back to the dock at Bahia Mar 801 Seabreeze Blvd. Fort Lauderdale 33316. On our ride back, everyone spoke of the marvelous spectacle performed by the Sailfish – its beauty and grace.
