Fishing Fort Lauderdale on Happy Day Today with Capt. Zsak

With perfect weather in Fort Lauderdale for fishing, the GE Corporation held their convention here and chartered the Happy Day Today along with the Topshotfishing team to do some sport fishing in Fort Lauderdale. Winds were northeast at 10 mph, seas running 3-4 ft. Our guests on board the boat were Larry Dodd, Daniel Tarr, Adam Luthman, Carol Hafner and her daughter Amy.

We stopped to pick up a dozen live Goggle Eyes from T & T Bait in the inlet in Fort Lauderdale, and headed out to the drop off, which is 1.8 miles from shore, 120 ft. deep. We set up two kites with four Goggle Eyes from each kite. Our first fish was a Hammerhead Shark that attacked our bait with dorsal fin out of the water. As he grabbed the live bait, he took off. After a few minutes of fighting the Shark, he pulled the hook. We set up two kites again, this time a black shadow appeared. Dorsal and bill out of the water as the Sailfish chased the live bait and finally ate him. With white water flying the Sailfish exited the water, exposing his neon colored body. Daniel was the angler and after 25 minutes of battle, he brought the beautiful creature to the side of the boat where our mate, Jackson, brought him in for picture taking and was released to fight again. We set up again, and this time a Mahi Mahi was hooked up on the left short. Amy was the angler, and she did a good job bringing the Mahi Mahi inside the boat – tonight’s dinner. Again we set the kite up and this time we hooked up with two Sharks – a double header – both in the 200 lb class. Larry and Adam were the anglers. After 15 minutes, one of the hooks was pulled; 45 minutes later the other Hammerhead “arrived at the boat”. Pictures were taken and the Shark was released. From there we trolled back to the inlet catching Bonitos and Tunas.

Everyone had a good time, but it was time to head back to the dock at Bahia Mar 801 Seabreeze Blvd. Fort Lauderdale 33316.
