Fishing Fort Lauderdale on Happy Day Today with Capt. Zsak

The Bowsher family, parents Fred and Nicole, along with their daughers, Shannon & Hannah, from Melbourne, FL came down to Fort Lauderdale, FL to do some deep sea sport fishing. The Bowsher family enjoys fishing but in Melbourne it takes 60 minutes to get to the fishing ground, and as Fred told me, “The girls find the hour long trip too boring. Therefore, the family decided to come down to Fort Lauderdale, FL, where it only takes 15 minutes to get out to the fishing grounds, and they chartered the Happy Day Today along with the Topshotfishing team.

We had winds out of the east at 5 mph, blue skies, temperatures in the high 80s, and 2-3 ft. seas. With our drop off sitting in 120 ft. of water, 1.8 miles from shore, 15 minutes after leaving the dock lines were in the water at the sea buoy in Fort Lauderdale, FL. We put two #8 plainers down, one with a blue reflector 3 ½ drone spoon and the other with a pink and blue sea witch in front of a double hook Bonito strip. For surface baits we went with 4 Bonito strips. Our first strike came on our surface bait; Hannah was the angler and she reeled in a 12 lb. Barracuda, which was released. Our next fish was a 9 lb Kingfish which Shannon reeled in. From there, Nicole and Fred joined in as anglers and brought in a total of 7 Kingfish and 2 Barracudas.

With happy smiles on all their faces, the Bowsher family retired to the a/c salon for the ride back to the dock at Bahia Mar 801 Seabreeze Blvd. Fort Lauderdale 33316. At the dock the Kingfish were fillet and packed in their coolers for the return trip back home to Melbourne.
