Fishing Fort Lauderdale on Happy Day Today with Capt. Zsak

The Teaneck Police Department had a PBA Convention here in sunny Fort Lauderdale; six of their officers, Eddie Hahn, Bob Harvey, Dan Garcia, Andy Haase, Mark Kovar and David Garcia, chartered the Happy Day Today along with the Topshofishing team to do some deep sea sport fishing.

Winds were out of the east at 5 mph, 2-3 ft. seas, and fluctuating overcast skies. Fifteen minutes after leaving the dock, lines were in the water at the sea buoy in Fort Lauderdale, located in 120 ft. of water. Due to our extreme drop-off, a ¼ mile further off shore would put you in 500 ft. of water. We started off trolling with two plainers down, one with a 3 ½ blue reflector drone spoon and the other with a pink and blue sea witch in front of a double hook Bonito strip. For surface baits we had two Ballyhoos and two Bonito strips.

Our first fish was a Bonito on one of our surface baits. I headed towards one of our 34 artificial wrecks – this one located in 145 ft. of water north of Fort Lauderdale. As I circled the wreck, the plainer rod went down and Eddie reeled in a 9 lb. Kingfish. From there we kept caught a total of six Kingfish, four Bonitos and four Barracudas, which we released.

On the trip back to the dock at Bahia Mar 801 Seabreeze Blvd., Fort Lauderdale 33316 the anglers retired to the a/c salon.
