Fishing Fort Lauderdale on Happy Day Today with Capt. Zsak

Steve Martucci, John Cowan and Bill Korba from Philly chartered the Happy
Day Today along with the Topshotfishing team to do some deep sea sport fishing in Fort Lauderdale FL. These gentlemen all have stressful, high demanding careers and decided to relax and have fun catching fish. Winds were east northeast at 15 mph with overcast.

On the way out we stopped to purchase live Goggle Eyes from T&T Bait and fifteen minutes later we set out two kites each with two live Goggle Eyes in 140 ft. of water at the sea buoy in Fort Lauderdale FL. It did not take long before the action started. Mahi Mahi on the left short, Mahi Mahi on the right short and another one on the left long, as the three Mahi Mahi’s crisscrossed each other’s lines and put us in a Chinese fire drill. Mark, our mate, unscrambled the puzzle and straighten out all lines, and all three Mahi Mahi’s ended up in the fish box.

We went back to the same area and reset the kites. This time the black shadow appeared on the left long. Sailfish!!! - he grabbed the bait, exited the water and started his show by tail-walking out of the water and frantically trying to dislodge the hook. Steve was the angler on the first Sailfish; he brought the Sailfish to the side of the boat for picture taking and was released. Again, we went back where I had been marking bait on the depth recorder and reset the kites. This time two Sailfish appeared – one on the right short and the other on the left short kite bait. Hooked up on a double header!!!!! One fish decided to exit north and the other to exit south, which put us in a difficult position. Mark brought in the rest of the tackle and directed Steve and John in the fight. Steve brought in his Sailfish first, followed by John. Pictures were taken of both Sailfish and they were released. We reset the kites again – this time we had a Sailfish “looker”; he came up and looked at the bait while Mark raised and lower the splashing bait to entice him. However, the Sailfish must have just had lunch because he just swam away. Another Sailfish appeared, was hooked up and John brought in the Sailfish for picture taking and release.

With a total of five Mahi Mahi’s all in the 10 lb. class and a Barracuda and Bonito thrown back, it was time to head back. The gentlemen retired to the A/C salon for the trip back to the dock at Bahia Mar 801 Seabreeze Blvd. Fort Lauderdale Fl. 33316.
