Windows Time Settings - time.nist.gov

So, I was setting my clocks around the house for daylight savings time...springing forward and whatnot... Then I sat down at my computer to get some work done. I looked up at the clock, then at my computer's time and ack! They were almost 10 minutes apart! I assumed that I set the clock on the wall incorrectly. I asked my wife what her laptop time was set to. It was right in between the two. So hers was either 5 minutes slow or 5 minutes fast...I was in a time warp!
I checked my time settings on my computer by double clicking the date/time in the bottom menu bar then selected the "Internet Tim" tab. The box was already checked to "Automatically synchronize" my laptop's time. It was set to update from time server time.nist.gov. I clicked the "Update Now" button and it failed to update from the time server!
So, I changed the server to time.windows.com and my laptop time immediately synchronized. So, I'm not sure what's going on with nist.gov, but it doesn't seem to be working...and it hasn't worked in long enough that my laptop time had drifted by ten minutes!
The moral of this story is...don't count on your computer's time... if your time is set to use time.nist.gov, you should probably find a different time source.
