Potomac River Rockfish 09/24/2011

I went out yesterday for a calm, overcast day of rockfishing on the Potomac.

I set up shop on Swan Point after marking a lot of fish in 23 to 28 feet of water. Most of the fish were running in the 15 to 20 feet range.

At first I was drifting along livelining some eels, trying to stay on top of marked fish. After awhile of trying to stay on station, I dropped an anchor. I caught one bluefish in about an hour and gave up on that when I saw some birds to chase after. There was some topwater action, so I grabbed my casting setup with a spoon and tossed it out there. I ended up catching one bluefish here as well. Chased the topwater around for awhile and finally gave up on that and decided to drop some parachute rigs into the drink.

I trolled parachutes all over the drop-off at Swan Point and out to the lumps - back and forth - marking a lot of fish, but not a single takedown.

At least it was a comfortable day. I may try again today.
