We are staying on the back side of Tybee Island (near Savanna GA) for the next week. We are on the south end near Tybee Inlet which the tide chart calls tybee creek inlet. It's no creek however, being over a quarter mile across. Locals call it the Back River.

We want to fish with surf rods and use the local bait which is mud minnows, shrimp or froven squid. Last year we caught a 4' Hammerhead Shark and than, 2 minutes later something ( probably a bigger shark) took out all my line and snapped it off at tha spool. 25lb Stren.

We will get a low tide in the AM and a low tide in the afternoon all week. Today the low was 9:30 AM and the high 4:00 PM. These times will become almost an hour later each day, as the week goes on. Tides are running 8 feet wave:

WHEN, IN RELATION TO THE TIDES IS THE BEST TIME TO FISH?

Thanks for the advise.

Hi Charlie,

I hope your fishing trip went well. There are many different schools of thought regarding tides and when is best for catching fish. Part of it depends on the area that you're fishing, the type of fish and the bottom structure.

Unfortunately, it looks like no one here is a local to the area to give you advice. I would say to stop by the local baitshops and ask them. I'm sure they'll be happy to help you out.
