Fishing Fort Lauderdale on Happy Day Today with Capt. Zsak

Corey Hilliard and his wife, Carol, along with friends, Brady and Amy from Illinois decided to do some big game deep sea sport fishing in Fort Lauderdale, FL with the Topshotfishing team. We had winds running out of the east, southeast at 12 mph and seas running 3-4 ft.

Fifteen minutes after leaving the dock lines were in 120 ft of water at the sea buoy in Fort Lauderdale FL which is 1.8 miles from shore. If you venture out another ¼ of a mile, the depth of the water will be 500 ft. due to our extreme drop off close to shore. We started off with two #8 plainers, one with a pink and blue sea witch in front of a double hook Bonito strip, the other with a blue and white sea witch in front of a double hook Bonito strip. For surface baits we had two Bonito strips and two Ballyhoos and a ¼ ounce alibi feather down the center rigger.

We have 34 artificial wrecks in our waters ranging from 60 ft. out to 420 ft. deep, giving us a wide range of depths. These wrecks consist of large freighters all the way down to small barges. Any type of structure (artificial wrecks) will hold the bait fish and in return the predators will not be far behind.

All four anglers took turn reeling in their catches with a total catch of five Kingfish, three Barracudas, five Bonitos and two Tunas.

With fish on the menu for tonight’s dinner, all the anglers retired into the a/c salon for a relaxing ride back to the dock at Bahia Mar 801 Seabreeze Blvd. Fort Lauderdale 33316.
