Fishing Fort Lauderdale on Happy Day Today with Capt. Zsak

Chris Walker and friend from NY chartered the Happy Day Today along with the Topshotfishing team to do some deep sea fishing in Fort Lauderdale, FL. Winds were out of the east at 12 mph, seas running 4-5 ft., blue skies, a perfect Chamber of Commerce day in Fort Lauderdale, FL.

Our anglers’ requested to do some kite fishing so we picked up a dozen live Goggle Eyes from Fort Lauderdale Marina, and fifteen minutes later we were at the sea buoy in Fort Lauderdale FL in 120 ft. of water. You venture off another ¼ of a mile and you will find yourself in the depth of 500 ft. of water due to our extreme drop off very close to shore. I set up two kites with two live Goggles Eyes from each kite and one live Goggle Eye from the outrigger with a spin on lead. After 35 minutes of fishing, I could tell the current was slowing up – I looked further off shore and I could see the elephants walking, which is an indication there is current, so I brought in our tackle and kites and moved out to 380 ft. of water where there was current and reset.

Long right Sailfish!!! As he circled the bait not showing any interest in feeding even though we splashed the bait – a looker. Fifteen minutes went by and another black shadow appeared. This Sailfish was ferocious and hungry – he immediately grabbed the bait and the fight was on as Chris was the angler. He decided to go down current – a very intelligent fish – he must have been hooked before because he knew all the tricks. Every time I changed my direction, he changed his direction – this went on for 20 minutes. Finally, the Sailfish made a mistake and Mark, our mate, brought the fish into the boat for picture taking and was released. From there I set up again on a shallower wreck in 135 ft. of water. This time on the left long bait an Anaconda Kingfish ate the bait as he skyrocketed out of the water. Chris was our angler again – a tug of water continued for 20 minutes but was rewarded as Mark gaffed a 31 lb. Anaconda Kingfish.

It was time to head back to the dock at Bahia Mar 801 Seabreeze Blvd. Fort Lauderdale 33316.
