Fort Lauderdale Fishing with Top Shot Sportfishing Charter Boat and Capt. Zsak
Sailfish Kevin s.jpg
Locals from Fort Lauderdale, Kevin and Heather Mosca, chartered the Top Shot Sportfishing charter boat team to do some deep sea charter boat sport fishing in Fort Lauderdale, FL. Kevin has been wanting to catch a Sailfish for quite some time, so the goal of our trip was to catch a Sailfish. Our sailfish season starts during the winter months and will continue until mid-spring.

On our way out, we stopped at T&T Bait to get a dozen live Goggle Eyes, which are great baits for Sailfish. Sailfish have been coming along the reef in 130 ft. of water, so we decided to slow troll naked Ballyhoos down the reef north of Fort Lauderdale. We went from 100 ft. out to 200 feet of water, back and forth, looking for schools of live bait, birds and signs of Sailfish feeding. The spread was four naked Ballyhoos and two deep plainers with sea witches in front of a double hooked Bonita strip. After searching for an hour, we got a really nice bite one of the plainer rods. All of a sudden a Sailfish came jumping out of the water, showing his magnificent colors and tail-walking - Kevin had his target fish on, now it was up to him to bring the Sailfish in, and he did. Kevin fought the Sailfish, as the Sailfish kept jumping out of the water a couple of more times, and brought him to the side of the boat. Our mate, Matt, took out the hooks, pictures were taken and the Sailfish was returned to the seas.

Still looking to catch more Sailfish, we decided to put out two kites with for four live Goggle Eyes, and did so until the end of the trip. Kite fishing is one of the best ways to target Sailfish, but unfortunately, we did not get a bite using the live baits.

It was now time to head back to the dock. The anglers retired into the a/c salon and enjoyed the relaxing trip back to the dock at Bahia Bar Yachting Center, 801 Seabreeze Blvd. Fort Lauderdale 33316. Both Heather and Kevin had a great time, and we certainly hope to have them back fishing with us again. Congratulations, Kevin, on catching your dream.
