Buzzbaits

Post by brushhog »

Hey Rich...

I have, from time to time, had difficulty keeping my buzzbait on top of the water during the retrieve. Is it the bait? Rod position? Reel gear ratio? or as you have fished with me before maybe my lack of ability?

Couple things to try:
First its easier to keep it up, then bring it back up after it starts sinking, so try to start reeling as it his the water. Start with your rod tip up high and lower it as the lure gets closer to the boat.
2nd, use a heavy mono, like 17lb mono, that will help keep your bait up, if you use to light of mono or flourocarbon that will make it tougher to keep your buzzbait up.
Another thing you can do, is add a plastic trailer, the mass and water resitance on the trailer can help as well.

Lastly, check out Secret Weapon Lure Buzzrbaits, they have an extra blade that keeps the buzzbait riding high ;)

If none of that helps, you just got to reel faster
