Fishing Fort Lauderdale with Topshotfishing and Capt. Zsak

State and Mike McNiz along with their son, Dylan, from New Mexico chartered the Topshotfishing team to do some deep sea big game sport fishing in Fort Lauderdale, Florida. Winds were out of the east at 10-15 mph, seas running 3-4 ft., temperatures in the low 80’s.

Fifteen minutes after leaving the dock, Captain Nate had lines in 120 ft. of water at the sea buoy in Fort Lauderdale, 1.8 miles from shore. We started off with one plainer down, four surface baits and a Ballyhoo dredge. We trolled the reefs going from one artificial reef to the other ranging in depth from 80 ft. out to 240 ft. of water. Fort Lauderdale has 34 artificial reefs consisting of wrecks, and these wrecks are good places to catch fish – the wrecks will hold the bait fish and in return the predators will be close by.

We set two kites out over one of the artificial reefs located in 190 ft. of water north of Fort Lauderdale and two live Goggles Eyes from each kite. Our first strike was a swing and miss as the Kingfish skyrocketed out of the water cutting the bait in half - this was repeated twice. Then the Sailfish made his appearance on the left short kite. Hooked up as the Sailfish came out of the water tail-walking from north to south. Dylan was our angler while mom and dad cheered him on. Thirty minutes later Dave, our mate, wired the Sailfish and pictures were taken.

Dylan along with the family enjoyed the relaxing trip back in the a/c salon to the Bahia Mar Dock, 801 Seabreeze Blvd. Fort Lauderdale 33316.
