Fort Lauderdale Fishing on Happy Day Today with Capt. Zsak

Mike Brewer and a group of friends all from Cincinnati chartered the Happy Day Today along with the Topshotfishing team to do some deep sea sport fishing in Fort Lauderdale, FL. They had just finished an enjoyable trip in Disneyworld in Orlando, FL and were now enjoying the beaches of Fort Lauderdale.

With a case of beer to quench their thirst, they were ready to start their fishing adventure with the Happy Day Today. Winds were out of the east, southeast, 10-15 mph with a moderate chop. We left the dock to travel out to our drop off that sits in120 ft. of water – twenty minutes later lines were in the water. We had five surface baits and two plainers down, one with a 3 ½ blue reflector drone spoon, the other with a black and purple sea witch in front of a double hook Bonito strip. Our first fish was a Barracuda weighing 8 lbs. From there we trolled around to the north of Fort Lauderdale, zig zagging over the reefs, from 80 to 140 ft. of water. This action produced five Kingfish. After a few beers, they were cheering each other on, taking turns catching and bringing in the fish. Off to the distance I could see some birds working the area and headed towards them. A few more Bonitos in the 15 lb. class and Black Fin Tunas were caught. As Mike was bringing in one of the Tunas, he slowed down to take a sip of his beer, and was taken off guard by a Shark that attacked and ate half of the Tuna. There was no end to the harassment Mike received from the other anglers!!!! With enough Kingfish and Tunas to cook out on the grill, we headed back to the dock.
