Mosquito Lagoon - Fishing Report

The past few days have brought some changes to our weather patterns here in central Florida. The weeks leading up to this were basically epic to say the least. That is EPIC fishing and even EPIC weather conditions. Warm days in the upper 70's mean great days on the water. This beats the single digits I saw on the news in the upper mid-west, that is for sure. Like I have said before-this is why we are here in Florida. Even with the changes coming on it is still awesome weather conditions for sight fishing the Mosquito Lagoon.

The fishing has been really good. Redfish have been roaming the flats early and staying on them throughout the day and morning. Along with the redfish I/we have been seeing(and landing) numerous trout. Again I say trout...NICE TROUT. We saw some trout that looked like a yard sticks swimming by. Very nice indeed. Most of the trout that have boated and released have been in the 18-26 inch range with a few over that size. Some of these fish have been caught on top water but most with live shrimp or a free lined mullet. These fish are onto you before you know it. Approach them with that extra love and tenderness of stealth.

Redfish are still being caught using the sight fished shrimp. These fish are roaming in schools and are getting to become very spooky with the pressure from the holiday weeks along with the combination of great weather days of fishing. A strategically placed one(shrimp) I might add. Remember take your time and it will pay off. Soft plastics like a gulp will work extremely well too.

Black drum are still being found within the Mosquito Lagoon. However these fish have had so much pressure they too are very spooky as well. If you are able to get up on these fish use a smaller sized hook and cast well in front of them as to not scare them with the cast. They will do the flock of birds thing...One turns, they all turn and then they are gone on you.

Thanks for the cool pic. Looks like a good time,Ive always wanted to go red fishing. Hopefully some day I will.
